An annual reading of your normal blood pressure by age is the best benchmark of your physical health. The average readings for everyone according to the American Heart Association are less than 120/80 mm/hg.

Meaning, everyone with a BP rate higher or lower than that should be careful of their diet and activities so that they do not develop hypertension or hypotension.


Even if the normal blood pressure for men is 120/80 mm/hg, it can vary slightly according to age. Since our body changes all the time, it is normal for our BP to change, as well.

As you can see on the chart above, the BP chart by age changes as we grow older. Because our body grows bigger and heavier, our BP increases, as well. People at the age of 20 to 24 are most likely to be in the ideal blood pressure range of 120/80 because at this age, most people attain their healthiest state.

Maintaining a normal blood pressure by age will vary from person to person, as well. For example, a 15 year old may not be able to maintain the normal 117/77 mm/HG BP because he or she may have a body of a 19 year old. In this case, it is okay as long as he stays under the 120/80 mm/HG mark.

Hypertension disease most commonly occurs to people over 40 years old. As stated in the chart, the average BP rate for 40 years old and above is 125/83, which is already considered pre-hypertension.

Pre-hypertension means that your BP reading is almost considered high BP. At this rate, a person should start taking precautionary measures to lower the BP. However, if your normal rate is 125/83, then there is really not much to worry about.

What is the good blood pressure for adults?

140/90 mm/HG and above is considered hypertension. Any person with a BP this high should be given medical attention. And if you are younger than 40 years old, such a HBP can be caused by serious underlying health conditions such as kidney or heart disease.

Maintaining the normal bp by age should not be hard if you do not have any underlying health conditions. The most important thing to remember is that your readings is dependent on your overall health. Maintaining a healthy state of mind and body will keep you from suffering from hypertension or hypotension disease.

So keep your eye on the normal blood pressure by age chart and your readings. If you fall out of the accepted range, consider making lifestyle changes to diet and exercise routines.

  1. My blood pressure is always low…last one was 87/37 pulse 84
    I am 60 female and I have varicose veins and I weight 162. I am 5’ft 6″. I used to work out at the gym vigorously, but not for the last 9mths. in that 9mths I lost 16 pounds. I feel good but my veins feel heavy and achey. I recently put on my compression stockings again. I have psoriasis in 4 of my toenails,…that is what my Dr. said…I thought it was fungus from the gym which I got 10 years ago. I have always been active… but lately just working and walking. I sometimes feel very exhausted when working my 27hr. work week especially when coupled with stress from my diabetic/bi-polar husband who smokes as well. What advise/suggestions do you have for me? Today I’m going to check my blood pressure again. Thank you for your help.
